S CHILDREN, Bonnie Brooks and her sister Catherine made each other a solemn promise. If anything happened to either of them, the other Awould look after the family. With their parents separated and their father working as a labourer around the country, the children faced the prospect of being split up and put into care. "We were the closest sisters imaginable," she says. "We always looked out for one another. All seven children have always been close and the idea of being one big happy family is really growing on them now." One of the real problems at first was a practical one.
