Although Christmas trees have been part of celebrations in Europe since the 16th century, none reached England until 1800. More recently Arne Fjellberg, a Norwegian scientist, calculated that the average Christmas tree has about 30,000 midges, fleas, lice, parasitic wasps, spiders and beetles on it.
